In the game of tennis every shot, apart from the serve, will be in response to a shot hit by your opponent the other side of the net. Understanding ball flight, bounce and being able to tell the type of shot that your opponent has hit will help you move into the best position in the court, select the right stroke, increase your chances of winning the point and develop your overall tactics and strategy

In this guide we’re going to look at how to track and make contact with the tennis ball.

Key Points:

Point 1:
The ball will be hit to you either in an arc trajectory or hit down.
Point 2:
Watching your opponents racquet will give a good indication of how high the ball will fly before and after it bounces.
Point 3:
Aim to hit the ball at the highest point after the first bounce, or just after.
Point 4:
And finally spin will change the flight of the ball before and after it bounces.
