In this video guide we’ll show you how to play the lob volley shot.

The lob volley is most often used in tennis doubles because it’s a shot that you play standing close to the net to lift the ball over an opponent that’s also standing near to the net. In singles it’s very rare that both players approach the net at the same time so you’re not likely to play the lob volley in singles games very often.

Key Points:

Point 1:
The lob volley is a shot used in a very particular situation when both you and the opponent are close to the net.
Point 2:
Make sure you have a continental grip, turn your shoulders slightly and keep your wrist firm all the time.
Point 3:
Open the racket face as you volley so that the ball is lifted over the opponent’s head to the back of the court, making good use of any angle that makes a return difficult for your opponent or their doubles partner to retrieve.
Point 4:
Finally, recover quickly into a good ready position in case your opponent does get to the ball.
