Before you train, or play competitive netball, it’s very important to warm up properly. Warming up is about preparing to play, so as well as being a physical warm up your pre-match and pre-training routine should also include time to focus and concentrate on the game or training session that lies ahead. If you’re in the right frame of mind, then you’ll get more out of an exercise session and you’ll definitely perform better in matches. You can find out more about this in the 'Playing at your best' section in this academy.
Never underestimate the importance of a thorough physical warm up too. For any game you need to be ready to play your best netball from the first centre pass. Many players take time to ease into the game – if you’re ready from the first minute then you’ll already be one step ahead of them – more alert, more focused, more competitive and more likely to be on the winning side!
Warming up properly also means that you are less likely to get injured and your body will recover more quickly too.
